ILC Services

A Quick Primer

TVO-ILC (Independent Learning Centre) is Ontario's publicly-funded online high school. It offers Grade 9–12 courses — including math, sciences, English, and more — that students can take at their own pace, without attending a physical school.

It's a popular choice for homeschooled students, students returning to school after a gap, and anyone who needs flexibility around their schedule. The courses are free for Ontario residents who meet eligibility requirements.

The catch: ILC courses are completely self-paced, which means there's no teacher prompting students to keep moving. Without external structure, a lot of students fall behind and eventually time out — losing all their work. That's exactly what the accountability and tutoring services here are designed to prevent.

"Kristen is amazing! She did for my daughter in a couple of weeks what we couldn't do in 9 months. She saved my daughter's course!"

Enrollment

Evidence of Learning Support

The Evidence of Learning form is required before ILC will enroll a homeschooled student. It's not complicated, but it's easy to get wrong — and a rejected application means starting over. You fill out a simple intake form describing your child's year, and Kristen builds ILC-compliant documents from what you provide.

ILC FAQ

Does my homeschooled child qualify for TVO-ILC?
Most Ontario homeschool students do qualify, but there's an Evidence of Learning step required for enrollment. ILC needs to confirm the student has the prerequisite knowledge for the course they're signing up for. The enrollment support service handles this whole process.
What happens if a student times out of an ILC course?
They lose all their submitted work and have to start the course over from the beginning if they re-enroll. There's no recovery option once a course times out. This is exactly why the accountability sessions exist — to prevent it from happening in the first place.
How long does an ILC course typically take?
Courses are self-paced with a maximum enrollment window (10 months). In practice, students who work consistently can complete a course in 2–4 months. Students without external accountability often stretch far longer and risk timing out.
Which ILC subjects can you help with?
Math, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Environmental Science. If you're working on a different subject, reach out and we'll see if it's something that can be covered.
Does my child need a tutor, accountability sessions, or both?
Depends on where the problem is. If the student understands the material fine but keeps avoiding opening the course — accountability sessions. If they're stuck on specific concepts and fall behind as a result — tutoring. Many families find a combination works best.
